Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished.
  • he submitted file was prepared in accordance with the provided template.
  • Where applicable, the URLs for the references were provided.
  • The choice of presentation type (in-person or remote) was indicated in the “Comments to the Editor” field.
  • Interest in submitting a revised and extended version of the article for publication was indicated in the “Comments to the Editor” field.
  • The category (thematic axis) of the submission was indicated.

Author Guidelines

We invite the academic community to submit works for participation in ENCAM 5 in the categories of oral communication and artistic communication.

Submissions will be accepted for the following thematic tracks:

  1. Cognition, Perceptual Processes, and Music Learning
  2. Music Cognition, Neuroscience, and Human Development
  3. Creative, Compositional, and Cultural Processes
  4. Interpretative Practices, Emotions, and Musical Experiences

General Instructions

Abstracts must strictly follow the templates available for download below:

Abstracts should be between 300 and 500 words (excluding title, keywords, and references) and include a brief context of the research and investigation question, objectives, method (only for empirical research), results, and conclusions. Artistic communications must also provide an audio link of the production, as per the template.

Abstracts in Portuguese must include an English translation, following the template. Works submitted in a foreign language (English or Spanish) must include a translation of the abstract into Portuguese.

At the time of submission, authors must upload one (1) electronic file of the abstract in PDF format (maximum 5 MB), following the template. The file must not include author identification, institutional affiliation, or any other information that allows the identification of the authors.

Information such as title, abstract, author list, and institutional affiliations must be entered in the specified fields. Authors must declare the names of all co-authors (if any) at the time of submission. No co-authors may be added after the evaluation process.

IT IS MANDATORY TO COMPLY WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS INDICATED IN THE “SUBMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS” FORM, AVAILABLE ON THE SUBMISSION PAGE.

The deadline for paper submissions (via the online system) runs from February 9th to March 9th, 2026 [EXTENDED UNTIL MARCH 16th].

Authors may submit up to two communications as the primary author. At the time of submission, authors must declare the names of all co-authors (if any). It will not be possible to add co-authors after the papers have been reviewed.

Authors whose abstracts are accepted and who present their work at the event may submit their full papers for publication in ABCM indexed publications (ISBN), such as a chapter in the Music Cognition Meetings book series or an article in the Revista Percepta. Authors interested in these publication options must indicate this during submission and submit their full manuscripts by June 30, 2026. Papers accepted but not presented by the submitting author or at least one co-author will not be eligible for publication.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Abstracts submitted for both Oral Communication and Artistic Communication will be evaluated by at least two reviewers based on the four parameters indicated below: 

Structure and Content

Objectives, fluency and coherence of the text, consistency of argumentation, rigor in theoretical-methodological approach, congruence between objectives, development, and results, spelling and grammatical correctness, stylistic adequacy, quality of graphical elements (for oral communication), and technical quality of the provided audio file (for artistic communication).

References

Consistency of the dialogue with specialized literature, relevance and update of the references, and the link between the referenced papers and the framework of the project.

Paper outline

Adequacy of the title, consistency between the abstract and keywords in relation to the topic, clarity in the presentation of objectives, theoretical-methodological characterization, description of procedures and results, as well as compliance with the linguistic requirements specified in the templates: papers submitted in English or Spanish must include a Portuguese translation of the title, abstract, and keywords; papers submitted in Portuguese must include the corresponding English version.

Relevance

Explicit connection with the indicated thematic area, contribution to the advancement of knowledge, and theoretical or methodological innovation.

Oral Communication

Oral communications may be presented in person or remotely and must not exceed 15 minutes. After all presentations in each session, the session chair will moderate a discussion lasting up to 20 minutes, prioritizing interfaces among the presented works.

Artistic Communication

Artistic communications consist of in-person or remote presentations of up to 15 minutes, focusing on the submitted paper and the associated audio/video material. A moderated discussion of up to 20 minutes will follow.
