Psychomotricity and Music Education in Childhood:
a Theoretical Articulation

Psychomotricity, Music Education, Child DevelopmentAbstract
Body, cognition, and emotion form the foundation of human development, a process that begins in the womb and extends throughout life. In this context, psychomotricity investigates the mind–body relationship in interaction with the external world (ABP, 2026) and is grounded in the principle that movement is the primary means of relating to the environment and the basis for the organization of higher cognitive functions. Music, by mobilizing rhythm, motor coordination, perception, and bodily expression (Araújo et al., 2024), constitutes an experience that integrates these dimensions in a dynamic and interconnected manner. Therefore, the psychomotor approach offers consistent theoretical support for understanding how embodied experiences structure perception, expression, and musical learning in childhood (Louro, 2012).
