This article presents the outlines of a theory of musical meaning supported by the cognitive sciences. Based on an exposition of the theories that underpin the concept of embodied cognition, the article reflects on musical theory at both elementary and advanced levels. Finally, it proposes an original methodology, offering an analytical tool grounded in the new understanding acquired about musical meaning.
