The motivation behind human choices influences decisions in various areas of life, and when it comes to choosing a university course, it may originate from influences within the family environment or from the admiration of someone who can serve as a role model. The objective of this study was to investigate the motivations of music students in evangelical churches in Curitiba regarding the choice of a higher education degree in music, specifically in one of the musical instruments from the brass family. This study is characterized as qualitative research, through semi-structured interviews, in order to achieve the objective of understanding the motivational aspects of the interviewees in choosing to pursue a degree in music. The data were analyzed using Content Analysis, based on the methodology proposed by Laurence Bardin (1977), from the transcription of the interviews categorized according to the themes of the proposed script. The analysis presented the participants’ perspectives, from the decision to study music, to the choice of instrument, challenges in studying their instruments, and finally the decision to pursue a music degree, revealing the motivations of each one in this musical journey.
